Tranexamic acid is a very popular ingredient used in the skincare industry for treating stubborn post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation and melasma.
It is a derivative of amino acid lysine which helps in lightening the dark spots and reducing the activity of tyrosinase enzyme which causes production of melanin in the skin. Once the production of melanin is reduced it results in treatment of the hyperpigmentation on the skin.
Tranexamic acid also has anti-inflammatory properties which helps in reducing redness and swelling.
In today’s post I am reviewing the newly launched Tranexamic acid 3% and HPA serum from the Indian Brand “Minimalist”.
Coming to the product details-
What does the product say?
The serum contains 3% tranexamic acid and 1% hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid (HPA) which helps in reducing melanogenesis resulting in the treatment of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, post inflammatory erythema and melasma.
Hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid is considered an effective ingredient which has the potency to reduce hyperpigmentation equivalent to hydroquinone and kojic acid but reducing the cytotoxic effects that might be caused by them.
Tranexamic acid 3% is a low yet effective concentration which can be used daily on the skin during the night time for effective results.
The ingredient does take time to work on the skin. It takes a few months to show any effective result on the pigmentation.
Hence while using this product you have to be quite patient and use it consistently for months till the effective results are shown on the skin.

My experience with the product-
Minimalist is an Indian brand which has come up with an affordable range of skincare products without any artificial fragrance. The effective concentration of the actives used in their products make them suitable for almost all skin types.
I have tried many products from this brand before and the serums worked really well on my skin.
When this serum was first launched in the market I ordered it immediately as I really like tranexamic acid to treat stubborn acne marks on my face. The product is affordable and easily available. If you purchase it from their official website you can get an additional discount on their products.
The serum is non-sticky and absorbs within a few minutes giving a glowy finish to the skin.
It contains ingredients like-
Oat kernel extract- which helps in nourishing the skin and reduces inflammation.
Tranexamic acid (3%)- reduces melanin synthesis, helps in lightening dark spots on the skin.
Hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid (1%)- reduces melanogenesis resulting in an even toned complexion.
Mandelic acid (3%)- an alpha hydroxy acid which helps in reducing pigmentation while gently exfoliating the skin.
Salicylic acid (0.3%)- a potent beta hydroxy acid which helps in clearing pores and reduces comedone formation.
Turmeric root extract- helps in reducing inflammation and dark spots.
I applied this serum consistently for the past few months every night followed by my moisturiser. My skin has definitely become more even toned and glowy after using this product.
It has also helped in reducing the post acne marks which were left on my skin.
After using this product my skin feels much softer and smoother. If you have a pigmented skin this is a beginner friendly serum to try out. Just remember to apply a sunscreen everyday to avoid damage on your skin.
