Minimalist Salicylic Acid Serum Review

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid or BHA which is an exfoliating ingredient. Nowadays chemical exfoliation has been really popular among skincare products so a huge number of brands are providing different exfoliating products in the form of serums, peels, facewash for different skin concerns.

Salicylic acid is keratolytic in nature which means it helps in dissolving the keratin plugs and debris that gets deposited in the pores leading to blackheads and whiteheads. Also known as a non-inflammatory form of acne.

Due to the exfoliating nature of BHA, it keeps the skin clear and gets rid of the texture on the skin.

Salicylic acid is a boon for people with oily skin as it helps in controlling sebum production. In the pathogenesis of acne formation oil, dirt, bacteria results in  clogging of pores and if it is not treated at the right time it can lead to inflammatory acne in the form of pustules and nodules.

The anti-inflammatory action of this acid helps in reducing redness and swelling on the affected area.

Normally 2% Salicylic acid is a potent percentage to work on the skin effectively.

In today’s post I am going to share my review on Minimalist 2% Salicylic Acid Serum.

Earlier it came in a transparent glass bottle with a dropper but now the packaging has been changed to a black tinted glass bottle.

Texture-

The texture of the serum is viscous and it absorbs within a few minutes into the skin giving a matte look. It does not leave any sticky after feel on the skin.

How to use it?

After cleansing your face, apply 3-4 drops of this serum on your whole face and neck and let it absorb. Follow up with a moisturiser.

Any chemical exfoliant should be preferably applied in the PM routine to prevent sun damage. While using any acid in skincare the skin becomes sensitive to the UV rays hence proper protection and use of Sunscreen is a must.

I prefer to apply salicylic acid serum as a spot treatment. If you prefer to apply it on your whole face I would recommend it only 2-3 times a week to avoid over exfoliation of the skin.

My experience with the product-

I am a huge fan of salicylic acid in skincare. It has always worked great for me when used as a spot treatment. While using a few salicylic acid serums in the past I have experienced some breakouts on my skin if applied on non-problematic areas. With this serum I decided to give it a try on my whole face.

The first ingredient of the serum is aloe vera juice which acts as a humectant in order to retain moisture in the skin. Apart from this, the serum is formulated without any artificial fragrance silicones, essential oils etc.

Chemical exfoliation plays a vital role in skincare as it helps in preparing the skin for the next steps and lets your skin absorb various skincare products to work properly and effectively.

After cleansing and toning my skin I take 3-4 drops with the help of the dropper provided with the packaging and gently apply it on my skin then follow with my regular moisturiser. To my surprise while using this product as a face serum I didn’t experience any sort of irritation or breakouts on my skin. The product gives a matte feel which I really like.

I apply the serum 2-3 times a week to give a clear look to my skin and keep the acne at bay.

This serum did not cause any irritation or breakouts while in use. Just remember to apply a good broad spectrum sunscreen during the day to prevent any pigmentation on your skin.

Overall I am really happy with the way it worked on my skin.
