In today’s post I am reviewing The Ordinary Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension. Azelaic acid is an amazing ingredient when it comes to hyperpigmentation. It is naturally produced by the yeast present on the skin and can also be derived from barley, wheat and rye.
Azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid which increases the cell turnover rate which results in mild exfoliation of the skin giving rise to peeling of the upper dead skin layer and renewing the skin.
This process helps in removing the dark spots present on the epidermis of the skin. It has also shown effective results in the patients of Melasma.
What I really love about azelaic acid is that it can be combined with retinoids. When included together it helps in improving the appearance and texture of the skin. Unlike retinoids azelaic acid is safe during pregnancy and lactation.
The ordinary azelaic acid 10% suspension is a potent formulation which helps in giving the desired results within a matter of a few weeks.

Texture and consistency-
The cream is quite thick in consistency. As it contains dimethicone it spreads very easily on the skin.
My experience with the product-
I do love almost all the products manufactured by The Ordinary. Their clean ingredient list and effective formulations have always worked great for me. Their azelaic acid suspension is no less. I apply the cream on a cleansed face after my serms and actives only on the affected areas where I experience hyperpigmentation. It does not give any greasy or sticky feeling to the skin. I usually combine this with my retinol serum as well and it works great for me. I’ve seen significant improvement in my skin tone and texture after using this product. Due to the increased cell turnover rate it accelerates the process of reducing the hyperpigmentation on the skin. Some people might experience mild tingling while applying it for the first time. Just remember to do a patch test before including any new ingredient in your skincare. Silicones act as occlusives and help in reducing transepidermal water loss from the skin but if you are allergic to it you can skip this one and try any other silicone-free azelaic acid cream.
